The demand is for representation. Why did the govt shoot down 4 protestors and a dozen more are critical at the hospital, when this was the first time ever that a mob got rowdy. For context, it’s is one of the most heavily military deployed regions in the world and absolutely no conflicts. The Ladakhis are very peaceful by nature.

I would like to point out the other part of the coin you completely ignored.

As long as I get it, Ladakh isn't exclusive to strategic sensitivity. Arunachal, Manipur, etc., are all vulnerable (both internally and externally), and yet they have statehood (Mizoram, Meghalay, etc., with 6th schedule).
Little did these states cause any strategic fallout against China (If we ignore the illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, Myanmar. Something centre should address, under "National security" narrative as usual).

Statehood not necessarily mean "veto" power. Centre can continue its jurisdiction over national interests within the states. It does bring bureaucratic delays, red tapes, etc., but I suppose, having these is actually more convenient than state-people trust decay. Also, there's a fallacy in your reasoning: gaining statehood not necessarily stops union funding. 

Their demand is rooted in feeling alienated, no representation of their needs (literally, from 4 to 0 MLAs), little say on sensitive ecology, and intuitively — fearing extinction on their own land.

They have been peacefully protesting since last year and how did our news channels cover it? I'm sure more than half of India didn't even know what the protests were about until today. Sonam Wangchuk has been the face of peaceful protests and hunger strikes since then, and their demands have been mostly ignored (when it was promised by the BJP in their election manifesto itself). News channels have reported that 3-5 people have been killed in police firing. Is this how we should treat our own citizens?

I hope things settle down and center and the local bodies reach a mutual agreement, we do not want to see another unrest in a bordering state.
